I started yesterday’s post with a quotation – and still don’t have a definite answer as to who said it first, but by some happy coincidence, I was given a book of quotations this evening by Sue’s mum.
“The Funniest Things You Never Said by Rosemarie Jarski is packed with quotes for every possible occasion. The only trouble with it is the problem that she highlights in the only part of the book that she actually wrote, the introduction. It seems that the starting point for her collection of quotes was to give the conversationally inept a prompt for that witty response. By the time you’d searched through the book for the right one, the moment would be long past.
<Very long pause>
Anyway, I have just spent an enjoyable few minutes chuckling away to myself, with Sue telling me to shut up because she was counting knitting stitches.
I intended to find a few good ones to share with you here, but I’ve just spent half an hour reading the book without finding any suitable lines.
I’ve also failed to achieve anything else this evening, so perhaps the line, “Why put off until tomorrow what you can put off until the day after” will just have to do.
OK, today’s “giving up” is going to have to be “wasting any more time”.
