Junior Walker & The All Stars – Do The Boomerang – TMG 520
The Follow-up single to Shotgun, was not the most creative of Junior Walker’s recordings, being almost a carbon copy of the big hit. It also showed that Junior Walker and the All Stars were not being corralled into the Motown Sound, but would expand that “sound’s” horizons. This record also doesn’t have the tight audio hallmark of the Funk Brothers, Motown’s “House Band”, but has a more raw feel which must have been provided by the All Stars themselves.
This was UK Tamla Motown’s first release in July 1965, a month that saw only two more releases which will become the subjects for the next two posts on this blog.
